Songs from the

The Pool of
Life
Beginnings of the songEarly in the summer of 2008 Mersey Harmony was asked by writers of Liverpool's new anthem for the Capital of Culture to record their winning song The Pool of Life, together with three well known songs associated with Liverpool. We decided this would be a wonderful opportunity to add more variety to our repertoire which, in turn, could promote further Liverpool's rich and diverse musical legacy. First of all we had change the original musical score of this catchy, sing-a-long tune into a four part harmony arrangement that could be sung in a capella style. Matt Peters, husband of one of our members managed to produce a worthy musical arrangement for us and we set about learning the song and putting in extra rehearsals to ensure our version was good enough to be recorded. The Pool Of Life was written by Kenny O’Connell, Matt Shaw and Carl Davis and, in January this year, was entered into a "Song for Liverpool" competition. The competition was organised by the Open Culture Initiative, together with Merseyside's local radio station Radio City. When the song won the competition, it was officially adopted as the new anthem for the City. ![]() Our CD The recording and production of the CD was completed by Pool Records in early the Autumn. ![]() each song several times until the guys were happy with the sound quality.
