Liverpool's bid for UNESCO City of Music

Gordon Ross, Director of Creative Universe Ltd, invited delegates
from Mersey Harmony to attend a presentation and feedback event
on 25th January 2010 to discuss Liverpool’s bid for UNESCO City
of Music and to shape the future of Liverpool's music scene.

Approximately 150 people, from across Liverpool's music sector,
attended the event at the Contemporary Urban Centre in Greenland
Street, an area of renovated warehouses that has been unofficially
designated as Liverpool’s new centre for art and cultural events.

Mersey Harmony was represented by the MD, the Chairwoman
and the Assistant PRO. The event began late afternoon
and, after registration, everyone made their way to the first venue
where Michael Eakin, Chief Executive of the Royal Liverpool
Philharmonic, welcomed everyone. This was followed by a short
presentation from Glasgow’s music chiefs on their experience
as being named UNESCO City of Music in 2008.
Everyone then split into six breakout groups to discuss, in 20
minute sessions, Liverpool’s musical status under the headings
‘Past, Present and Future’.

The sessions were lively and well thought out by the facilitators
and many creative and inspiring ideas were discussed and debated.
All feedback information is to be considered by the management
team and steering committee who will decide what will be
included in the bid document.

Everyone then made their way back to the first venue where,
after
appreciation and thanks were given,
the event was formally closed.
The evening was nicely rounded off with a hot buffet and drinks
in the reception area. A very productive and eventful evening!
